Muhaddithul ‘Asr, ‘Allamah Muhammad Yusuf Binnoriy (rahimahullah) once wrote:

When people ask, “How can Jannah be so vast?” I respond by pointing to the cosmos. Consider our galaxy alone, which astronomers say contains billions of stars. The space these stars occupy is so vast that if it were divided among every human—even billions more—each person could receive a domain many times larger than Earth itself.
Jannah is a realm far bigger and more magnificent than this simple cosmos.

Balance and Preparation
However, if you believe in the eternal life [of the Akhirah], you must ask yourself: what am I preparing for it?
I am not saying that you should not achieve worldly positions or avoid progress here and not work hard for it.
Rather, do everything that is permissible and do it well. Work hard, but consider it a means. Do not make it the objective. Because in life, you will have to eat, wear, live, and all the necessities of living this life will be needed, but all of this is temporary and needed only as per necessity.

Beyond the Waiting Room
An example of this is that of a traveller from Peshawar to Karachi. Since it is a journey of two to three days [by train], he will need to arrange tickets, meals, and a place to sleep. All of these are necessary, but none are the purpose of the trip.
If this traveller became so engrossed in the station’s waiting room that he missed the train, you would call him a fool.
How much more foolish, then, is the one who makes the waiting room of this world his objective and loses himself in its vanities, whilst forgetting his [actual] destination!

Focus on your Purpose
Allah Ta’ala has given you worldly resources and has also given you intellect and reason. If you make the Akhirah your ultimate aim, then the worldly efforts and all its favours will also become part of the Akhirah.
Think of it like a sword that is made for Jihad; the effort [put in making it] will be a means of reward, and if the sword is made for oppression and transgression, then it will be a cause of sin and punishment. Therefore, by making the Akhirah your goal, every legitimate effort you make in this world counts as an act for the Hereafter.
However, if you make the world your goal, then the deeds for the Akhirah will also become worldly.

لوگ کہتے ہیں صاحب اتنی بڑی جنت کہاں سے آگئی؟ میں پوچھتا ہوں یہ جو سیارے فضا میں معلق ہیں، کیا ان کی تعداد اور ان کی وسعت تمہیں معلوم ہے؟ صرف کہکشاں کے بارے میں تمہارے فلکیات کے ماہر کہتے ہیں کہ اس میں تین ارب ستارے ہیں تو گو یا اسی فضا کو جس میں سیارے گردش کر رہے ہیں اگر انسانوں پر تقسیم کردیا جائے اور جتنے انسان موجود ہی ان سے کروڑوں بلکہ اربوں گنازائد انسان ہوں تب بھی تمہاری زمین سے دس گنا کیا ہزاروں گنا زیادہ رقبہ ایک آدمی کے حصے میں آسکتا ہے اور پھر جنت تو اس فضائے بسیط سے بھی کہیں بلند و بالا اور وسیع تر ہے، بہر حال اگر آپ کو یقین ہے اس ابدی زندگی پرتو دیکھنا یہ ہے کہ آپ اس کے لئے تیاری کیا کرتے ہیں، میں یہ نہیں کہتا کہ دنیا کے منصب حاصل نہ کرو، یہاں کی ترقی سے کنارہ کش ہوجاؤ اس کے لے محنتیں نہ کرو نہیں جو جائز ہے سب کچھ کرو، خوب کرو، محنت سے کرو، لیکن اسے وسیلہ جو مقصد نہ بناؤ، کونکہ زندگی میں کھانا بھی ہوگا، پہننا بھی ہوگا، رہنا بھی ہو گا اور جو بھی اس زندگی بسر کرنے کے لوازمات ہیں سب درکار ہوں گے ، مگر سب بقدر ضرورت اور وقتی ، اس کی مثال ایسی ہے کہ کوئی پشاور سے کراچی کا سفر کرے تو دو تین دن کا سفر ہے اس کے لئے کھانے ناشتے کا انتظام، اوڑھنے پہننے کے کپڑے، سونے کے لئے بستر جگہ (سٹ) وغیرہ کا انتظام اور خرچ کے لئے جیب میں کچھ پیسے سب ہی ضروری ہیں لیکن نہ یہ سفر بذات خود مقصد ہے، نہ اس کے لوازمات نہ کوئی درمیانی ویٹنگ روم (انتظارگاہ) آخری منزل ہے، اب اگر وہ مسافر کسی ویٹنگ روم کی سج دھحج کو دیکھ کرو ہیں بیٹھا مزے لیتا رہا اور گاڑی نکل جائے تو اس کو آپ احمق اور بے وقوف کہیں گے یا نہیں؟ پس اس سے بھی بڑھ کر بے وقوف وہ شخص ہوگا جو دنیا کے ویٹنگ روم کے تماشہ میں کھوکر اسی کو مقصد بنا لے اور اس کی لطف اندوزیوں میں منزل مقصود کو بھول جائے۔

حق تعالٰی نے آپ کو دنیاوی وسائل بھی دیئے ہیں اور عقل و شعور بھی دیا ہے، اب اگر آپ آخرت کو مقصد بنالیں تو یہ دنیا اور اس کی تمام نعتیں بھی آخرت بن جائیں گی ، مثلاً جہاد کے لئے تلوار بنائی جائے، تو یہ ساری محنت باعث اجر ہوگی اور اگر اسی تلوار کو ظلم و تعدی کے لئے بنایا جائے تو موجب جرم وعذاب ہو گی، تو مقصد آخرت کو بنا کر اس کی خاطر دنیامیں جو بھی صحیح اور جائز محنت کرو گے وہ سب آخرت میں شمار ہوگی اور اگر دنیا ہی کو مقصد بنالیا تو آخرت کے کام بھی دنیا بن جائیں گے۔
