With the mercy of Allah, the month of Ramadan is upon us once again. This great month is considered the “peak season” for a believer.
The abundant mercy, forgiveness and barakah from Allah during this auspicious month spur one and all into additional obedience to Allah Ta’ala.
From among the many deeds that one is able to practice during this month, the following 7 are most prominent:
1) To observe the obligatory fast, and not miss it for invalid/trivial reasons.
Refer to reliable scholars for details on this, & do not make your own decisions.
2) To stand up in 20 rak’ahs of Tarawih which is Sunnah Muakkadah (i.e., it is an emphasised Sunnah that should not be omitted).
We are not exempt from the Tarawih salah during any night of Ramadan, even after the Quran completion in the Tarawih Salah.
3) Ample recital of the Quran Karim which was revealed in this special month.
A minimum of 1 complete recital is very much recommended, and there is no limit for the maximum.
4) Optional Charity, in addition to the obligatory (wajib) Sadaqatul Fitr.
Rasulullah (sallallahu ’alayhi wa sallam) would increase his generosity considerably during Ramadan.
5) Abundant du’a, since the moments of its acceptance are plenty in Ramadan.
The time of Sehri and before Iftar should be dedicated to du’a.
6) I’tikaf (i.e., to spend any additional time in the Masjid) as much as possible throughout the month, especially during the last ten nights.
One who cannot engage in the formal “sunnah i’tikaf” should spend whatever time is available in the Masjid.
7) Sincere Tawbah (repentance), as one who is deprived of forgiveness in this month is truly deprived.
Note: It should be noted that these seven deeds are not restrictive. One is encouraged to engage in any additional nafl deed possible.
May Allah Ta’ala inspire us all to practice on the above and all other good deeds. Amin.
