The current sad state of the Ummah of Nabi Muhammad (sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam) is indeed unprecedented in recent history. The Ummah is challenged on all fronts; from widespread oppression, to poverty and illness. To the political scandals and the current pandemic etc. Whilst we believe that every difficulty is undoubtedly followed by ease, the current situation is such, that ease is not yet in sight. My Honourable Teacher; the Grand …

How to receive the du’as of the Angels
This article is from the many ones that were inspired by my Beloved Father (rahimahullah). He commenced the discussion on this particular one whilst I was at his side during a dialysis session. Such was his love for ‘ilm, that he engaged in its discussions everywhere, and not just in a classroom or from a mimbar. May Allah Ta’ala fill his grave with nur, and raise his ranks in Jannah. …

How to acquire the habit of practice
An extremely beneficial method of inculcating the habit of practicing upon knowledge is to accompany people who do so themselves. One advantage of formerly acquiring knowledge from a suitable teacher is that together with knowledge one is also able to visualise how the teacher applies it in his life. Ibn Sirin (rahimahullah) said: “They –the senior Tabi’un- would study how to practice (‘amal) just as they would study knowledge …

An interesting incident on Bukhari recitals
The following is extracted from a book written by Hazrat Moulana Yusuf Motala saheb (hafizahullah) of UK. entitled: Hazrat Shaykhul Hadith and I, pg.30. Hazrat Shaykh, [Moulana Muhammad Zakariyya Kandehawi -rahimahullah-] spent the Ramadan of 1393 A.H [October 1973] in the Holy lands. since I had to perform Haj with my wife and aunt, I could not present myself for Shaykh’s service in that Ramadan. The Arab/Israel war took place …

Our dependence on Allah Ta’ala and the need for du’a
Allah Ta’ala says: يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ أَنتُمُ الْفُقَرَاءُ إِلَى اللَّهِ ‘O People you are needy/dependent upon Allah Ta’ala.’ (Suratul Fatir, verse: 15) The entire creation is actually dependent on Allah Ta’ala for everything. Allah has granted us the mode of du’a to ask from Him for all our needs. Our hands are begging bowls. وَقَالَ رَبُّكُمُ ادْعُونِي أَسْتَجِبْ لَكُمْ ‘And Your Rabb said, Call upon Me, I will respond to …

Du’a for a New Year
At the approach of a New Year or month, the Sahabah (radiyallahu ‘anhum) would recite the following du’a. Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn Hisham (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that the Sahabah (radiyallahu ‘anhum) would learn the following du’a for when the new month or new year would begin: اللّهم أَدْخِلْهُ عَلينا بِالأمْنِ وَالإيمان، وَالسَّلامَةِ وَالإسْلام، وِجوارٍ مِّنَ الشَّيْطان، وَرِضْوَانٍ مِّنَ الرَّحْمن. Du’a when welcoming a Haji
Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Umar (radiyallahu’anhuma) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu’alayhi wasallam) said the following to a returning Haji: قَبِلَ اللهُ حَجَّك ، وَغَفَرَ ذَنْبَكَ، وَاَخْلَفَ نَفَقَتَكَ ‘Qabilallahu hajjaka, wa ghafara dhambaka, wa akhlafa nafaqatak.’ Translation: May Allah accept your Haj, may He forgive your sins and may He replace your expenditure. Boost your Memory
The scholars have enlisted many practices for boosting the memory, however most of these practices are based on experience and are not from the Hadith. There is no harm in practicing upon these as long as one is aware of the above. My Honourable teacher, Al-Muhaddith Shaykh Muhammad ‘Awwamah (may Allah protect him) usually recommends -among other things– the following salat on Nabi (sallalahu ‘alayhi wasallam) to be recited frequently …
