Shaykh Muhammad ‘Awwamah (hafizahullah) says:

“True respect for knowledge lies in applying it immediately. There was once a scholar teaching Sahih Muslim when he read that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam) performed salah in a simple two-piece garment — izar and rida, which resemble the ihram. A righteous senior ‘Alim was among the attendees. As soon as he heard this, he went home, put on the same type of clothing, and returned to join the Jama’ah (congregation) for the ‘Isha Salah. Someone inquired if he was in ihram for ‘Umrah, since they were in Iran. The answer was: “No, he just heard the Hadith that Nabiy (sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam) performed Salah in an izar and a rida, so he hurried to apply the Sunnah and offer his Salah in the same attire.” Such was their devotion — may Allah be pleased with them — they were quick to act upon the knowledge they acquired.”

Reflection

Putting knowledge into practice is a responsibility for every Muslim, regardless of their level of learning. Shaykh (hafizahullah) often mentions:

“Knowledge is the means and practice is the goal.”

Unfortunately, many people mistakenly consider knowledge as the ultimate objective, rather than a tool for righteous action. In truth, knowledge that is not applied is, in effect, dishonored.
